The Cardean University Story
These qualities represent the goal to transform education and bring high-quality business education to students everywhere.
Cardean grew from an idea developed by Andrew Rosenfield, an economist, educator, and attorney, and Gary Becker, a Nobel Prize-winning professor of economics at The University of Chicago. Part of Becker's work focused on how education helps individuals succeed in their careers.
Rosenfield and Becker realized that most of us don't have access to top-tier, campus-based university courses. They wanted to make this level of education more available and to develop a new way of learning. To this end, they created an innovative program that blends Internet technology and progressive ideas in education, using content from the best universities. That program is the Cardean M.B.A. request more information »
Cardean then formed an academic consortium with five elite institutions:

Faculty members at these universities collaborated with Cardean University faculty, course designers and technology experts to develop effective online learning offerings. Cardean's first courses were released in 2000 and embedded business knowledge in practical, real-world course activities.
Cardean reached another milestone in 2000 when it gained accreditation from the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council. The DETC is a national accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (www.chea.org). The same year, the Illinois Board of Higher Education granted Cardean the authority to award the M.B.A. degree, making Cardean the first online university to earn degree-granting authorization in Illinois.
In April 2001, Cardean began a relationship with General Motors, one of the first of many corporate customers to acknowledge the value of the Cardean education. General Motors University President Donnee Ramelli chose Cardean for its "premium quality content, leading-edge learning approach, speed, global access, and cost savings." Along with GM, Cardean is also serving numerous other Fortune 500 companies through Thomson Learning, a division of the Thomson Corporation.
Cardean has taught thousands of students from more than 90 countries, and the Cardean M.B.A. program enrolls hundreds of students around the world.
